Updown is a beautiful 17th century former farmstead just outside Deal, Kent. Along with the Gatehouse and Gardener’s Cottage, the house has been lovingly updated to provide a total of six luxuriously appointed rooms. The conservatory restaurant is open to the public on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and for lunch Saturday and Sunday. Breakfast is open to the public Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday.
There are four rooms in the house, two with king size beds and two with super king beds. Gardener’s Cottage and Gatehouse are set in the grounds, away from the main house. All rooms are currently available to book Wednesday – Sunday inclusive, but can be booked for longer stays on request.
Breakfast is served in the restaurant or outside on the terrace. We will keep a table in the restaurant for all guests joining us for a hotel stay.
We use a small selection of the best suppliers – both local and European. All of our meat for breakfast comes from The Black Pig in Deal; seasonal veg is a mix of the Goods Shed, Merchant of Relish, Walmastone Growers and La Sovrana. Our fish comes from Jenkins and Son fishmonger and our meat comes from our long time butcher HG Walter.
Our beautiful kitchen garden is tended to by our lovely gardener Rachel along with groundskeepers Dan & Robin. It is open for guests to explore and even enjoy a drink amongst the beds in the evening sun.
